The sweet taste of authenticity

Believe in yourselfI never stood up to my parents. I was four when I swell a button. I was terrified to acknowledge it that I pretended it just fell of my blouse. So, for a couple of minutes, we kept on looking for it, in the living room. It was nowhere to be found, of course, because it was lying in my stomach. I abode by their rules until I was 17. I was just about to start a radio career and I needed to learn how to handle the sound mixing console. The appropriate time to do it was at night. My desire to be a radio host was so big that I left home despite their opposition (I wasn’t allowed to be away at night and even to attend  late parties). They didn’t kick me out of the house and, in the end, they were proud of me.

The first year of my life made quiet a strong imprint on me and despite being independent and on my owns feet, a certain amount of submission lingered on. I knew I could do great things but, on the other hand, I was afraid of upsetting people and being rejected. Since the law of attraction is working 24 /7, I had my share of people telling me I was one step from perfection if only I acted their way. Boyfriends telling me to be a good girl and a flexible person.

Until I realised it is too tiresome and energy consuming to be someone that you’re not. That I would rather have fewer friends for who I am than for what I pretend to be. I would rather give up a romantic relationship and be single for a while than betraying me.

I can tell you folks, authenticity tastes so sweet. Because it sets you free! The moment you know who you are, love and respect yourself just as you are, life becomes a lot easier. You have more energy to put into your dreams and goals (because you don’t have to use it pretending to be someone you’re not). I heard a story about a woman who was a big shot in an international company. She was having a great life, lots of friends. The moment she lost her job, the phone stopped ringing. People forgot she even existed. Maybe, the best part of being authentic is that you’ll be appreciated and loved for who you really are as a person and not for your possessions, social status or your mask. No one will be able to push your buttons to make you feel miserable, lost or unworthy.  You will not have to fit anymore because you will need nobody’s approval.

You may fear that you will become an outcast. Well don’t! There are other people, just like you, who are free. You will find them. In this situation, less is more. All great achievers in this world – Einstein, Dali, Steve Jobs, Tesla, to name a few, were authentic persons. Who knows, you might be one of the people born to change the world! Or heal it!
