Yes, confess, I like cars. Those who come in fluid shapes, have powerful engines and are painted in red. Bright red. Tired with traffic jams in the city I live now (Bucharest) and narrow roads, I had almost forgotten about it. The childhood days when I watched every Formula 1 Grand Prix hoping to see Ayrton Senna win and found solace and joy behind the wheel, driving out of town, to nowhere were forgotten, too. Because there were times when I felt there was more to my car than being an inanimate object. It was an extension of myself, and most import of all, the only “being” in my life that would never let me down or make me feel bad.

Yes, writers and women love to drive. At least, I do. Guilty as charged. Tonight, I was reminded about it by a movie. It’s called Rush and tells the story of two great Formula 1 champions: Niki Lauda and James Hunt.  I was reminded about the sheer pleasure of driving. Of the freedom I felt each time I was speeding up for a remote place. And yes, I did push the pedal to the metal a couple of times.

“Rush” it’s not a movie about Formula 1. It’s about having a dream and following it. About trusting yourself and your power to achieve it. About living life with passion. A passion that’s so big that it will make you stay alive and get back on your feet when everybody else – doctors and priest included, thinks you’re going to die. About choosing a path and becoming the best version of yourself, but still loving, still caring for others.

The real ones: James Hunt and Niki Lauda

I think people who have an ideal and a dream and decide to follow it are the passionate ones. They are the only ones who have wings and can fly. The others, are simply crawling, like caterpillars.

Aren’t yo, people, tired of being caterpillars? Don’t you want to fly?
