Book 1

Prismatic is the first book in the Harmony Run Series by Sarah Elle Emm. It is a dystopia set in a distant future, a clash between good – represented by a group of teenage friends and evil – portrayed  by the tyrannical President Nicks. The story borrows elements from the second World War Holocaust as well as ancient healing techniques (reiki, for example, the ability to heal with hands by channeling the universal energy).

The beginning is gripping making the reader eager to find out why  Rain(the main heroine) and her family are forced out of their home in the middle of the night and see what’s going next. They will soon discover that The United States of America were transformed in the United Zone of the Authority,  freedom was abolished and people were grouped according to their race. The mixed race is the most ill -treated one, deprived of the basics of a normal life (food, education, marriage, giving birth, nature).

In this bleak setting, Rain Hawkins – the beautiful, intelligent, optimistic, generous heroine together with her brother and their teenage friends are a ray of light. They will embark on a  dangerous adventure to restore freedom and  discover love. Many adolescents will identify with the love story between Rain and Jabari – the emotion, the thrill, the joy of finding your soulmate, the parents’ disapproval.

I enjoyed the way the author describes life under an oppressive regime, and the symbolism that runs through the story as well as the positive message: under the bleakest circumstances,  love can find a way
